PAUL F. TOMPKINS IS ONLINE
LOS ANGELES: I am sorry to announce that Varietopia with Paul F. Tompkins is on hiatus for the remainder of 2014. Tickets purchased for the October show will be refunded, if they haven’t been already, and I apologize for any inconvenience this abrupt cancellation may have caused.
The sad, dumb fact of it is this: I bit off more than I could chew here. Although I have mounted many big variety shows pretty steadily over the last decade, I find myself very busy with actual paying commitments lately (good) and not a lot of time to indulge the creative things that will never pay me money (not so good). Scrambling around trying to do everything at once started to actually take a toll on my health! And it all caught up with me by the end of September.
After a great deal of exhausted soul-searching, I had to admit that I needed to focus on the job(s) that I already have and give them what energy and focus I still retain as I enter my pre-dotage. Varietopia will return at some point next year, but not as a monthly show. To do this thing they way I want to do it, I need more time to plot and book and write and rehearse. So that’s what I’m gonna do.
I also have plans for… something else. Watch this space.
Thanks to everyone who has come out to the seven Varietopias this year, and thanks to all the amazing people who have worked on this show, for less than peanuts, both on and off the stage.
See you in 2015!

SPEAKEASY WITH PAUL F. TOMPKINS: MICHAEL SHEEN

What a pleasure it was to chat with the amazing actor Michael Sheen, O.B.E.

It’s always fun with this guy.

These valiant girls, Kat Burns and Aubrey Leigh, risked life and limb dancing for my show while wearing these masks tonight. They are very precious to me.

From Varietopia with Paul F. Tompkins
Live at Largo at The Coronet
April 26, 2014

"Sound? Check!"

The show is interrupted by an (apparently) much-needed sound check.

Special thanks to Nelson Walters, Clinton Trucks, Neil Mahoney, Cash Hartzell, Charlie Fonville, Eban Schletter and the staff of Largo at The Coronet

The role of “Joey” is played by Mr. Scott Rodgers

Every month, the talented Liezl Estipona takes photos of Varietopia with Paul F. Tompkins at Largo at The Coronet. In addition to documenting the lineup ( and the secret fears of trumpet players), she snaps tons of action shots of the show in progress. Check them out here.

COME SEE WHAT SHE SEES!

The next Varietopia is Saturday August 23rd, and tickets are on sale now.
