Every month, the talented Liezl Estipona takes photos of Varietopia with Paul F. Tompkins at Largo at The Coronet. In addition to documenting the lineup ( and the secret fears of trumpet players), she snaps tons of action shots of the show in progress. Check them out here.
COME SEE WHAT SHE SEES!
The next Varietopia isSaturday August 23rd, and tickets are on sale now.
George Jones was one of my all time favorite singers. I saw him live at the Cow Palace about 25 years ago and it was a transformative experience for me. His music got me through some dark times. Always potent, cathartic, inspirational and just plain great.
Back in 1996 I wrote this song in tribute to him. I posted it today in his memory.

Brian Whalen is one of my oldest and dearest pals. I loved doing this sketch with him, inspired by his love of imitating George Harrison’s sitar songs.
Also, you might want to listen to this one more than once, because Eban Schletter goes reference crazy under the ramble before the sketch. I missed half of the stuff he played the first time, and I was there.
"Two immense stars from the world of music, 'Weird Al' Yankovic & Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber are on today’s Comedy Bean Bag! After chatting with Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber about English accents, The Little Prince, and nautical bed bugs, the Vicar of Yanks himself joins in on the conversation. There will be talk of drugs, what we shouldn’t expect from the next ‘Weird Al’ album, and an intense game of Would You Rather? Homonyms!”
"The full all-Beyond Belief Valentines Day show from February 14, 2013. Starring Paul F. Tompkins and Paget Brewster as those married mediums Frank and Sadie Doyle. Also starring Matt Gourley, Amanda Lund, Steve Agee, Natalie Morales, Hal Lublin, Marc Evan Jackson, and Joe Mantegna.
Original music by Eban Schletter (playing theremin) and Benmont Tench (on piano).”
As we celebrate the end of 2012 and the beginning of the… one after… that (math is not my strong suit) I would like to thank everyone who bought a ticket to a show, downloaded a podcast or purchased an album that I created this year. I am grateful to have nice fans and lucky that anyone pays attention to anything I do at all.
Here is a video from my final Largo show of 2012, and the last one, overall, for a while. I will be sharing more stuff like this with you from the considerable Paul F. Tompkins Show video archive as 2013 (now I get it; it’s like a series of numbers) unfolds. So go on and subscribe to my channel, should it please you.
On to the future. We’ll take a cup of kindness yet!
