I’ve been keeping tabs on people’s thoughts on the Flickr changes. With the redesign, if you’re logged into flickr, your home page will open to a full screen stream of your contacts photos. Previously, you had the ability to hide your contacts photos, which came up as thumbnails.

Today, Mary shared with us that this inflexibility of design can backfire on you.

Here is a fun thing in which I got to participate! The very lovely Jason Klamm was kind enough to invite me onto his fantastic podcast Comedy on Vinyl where, normally, people way more funny and articulate than I am talk about their favorite comedy records. I wanted to talk about PFT so I picked Freak Wharf, since it’s a nice lead-in to the all the parts of Paul’s comedy that inspire me artistically (I talk about his podcast as well, and most of his artistic/comedic output, really).

Anyway, listen here if you want and tell me later if it sounds okay—there’s no WAY I can listen to this myself! Hahaha… heh… gulp

I never really talk about my actual job, but with Fresno State’s Peace Garden dedication today and official press release, I can finally share this one.

Last year my office was tasked by Fresno to revamp the wayfinding signage on campus and I was personally tasked to do the interpretive illustrations.

Making these involved first conceptualizing the design, making several trips to Fresno to take pictures of landmarks from every angle for reference material, figuring out what material could withstand Fresno’s heat, then weeks of illustration and another couple weeks to painfully proofread every word … because you absolutely can’t muck up something that will be permanently laser etched into granite.

So that’s what I actually do for a living when not shooting comedy, and it’s pretty great when it all turns out as planned… especially when the client agrees.

It was so much fun to guest in character as Werner Herzog on Doug Benson’s Doug Loves Movies podcast for five episodes. Had I gotten to come back a sixth time, I would have brought this book as a prize for the winner of the game. I am not sorry that I get to keep the book.

If you read the preface of this book, you may understand why I love Werner Herzog so much.

Inconsistent quality of sound kept us from releasing this lost chapter, featuring the author of Treasure Island and Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde. We tried everything we could to correct it to a pleasantly listenable podcast before resorting to the “Hail Mary pass” of GIVING UP.

Let’s say this one is for completists. And people who enjoy turning volume up and down every 5 to 10 minutes for an hour. If you fall into one or both of these categories, there’s a lot of good stuff in here!
